Entry 12

Entry 12

A Chapter by Morning Star Stories

Today at about 1200 hours the 75mm cannons ran dry for the Arabs. When the thunderous hellfire stopped everyone screamed, “attack!” and jumped to their feet. My squad and I grabbed our Kar98s and took up position. When I looked over the top standing on my firing step, I saw Arabs, Arabs, Arabs out to the horizon. I fired a shot at the first Arab I saw sending him to the desert floor. The Mod 16 artillery crews fired a devastating shot butchering the Arab ranks. The concrete bunkers from the Arab trenches opened up with 4 Madsen light machine guns each. Bullets flew everywhere; the PFC (Private First Class) from my squad caught a few rounds and fell dead. Bullets were just swarming, knocking off guys all around me. I focused a shot on the bunker, my shot nixed a Madsen gunner, but he was soon replaced. I fired 3 more shots into the charging Arabs, killing two in a bloody heap. I knelt down and a attached a No. 36 grenade to the front of my rifle, I then shot up erect and fired the grenade into a group of 6 Arabs struggling to get over the barbed wire, they all died in the blast. I then returned to the step and fired a bullet into a Kalash autorifle wielding Arab nixing him. They were close now. I looked over at Hal and his squad; suddenly an explosion erupted in the middle of them sending them flying. I looked forward just in time to impale the Arab jumping down at me. They were in the trench. Another Arab with a scimitar came at me, I dodged then bayoneted him. I looked to the left to see the only guys left in our section were 2 of mine struggling with Arabs. I turned right and saw only Arabs. I picked up a dropped Madsen M46 submachine gun and fired into the crowd until my ammo ran dry. 5 Arab bodies fell limp. I rushed down towards Hal’s section, slicing into a masked Arab with my bayonet along the way. The whole trench was covered in blood. Then I saw Hal lying dead; he was flung over the top his body smashed like a car wreck. I took up a position focused my shot and fired a bullet into the head of a Madsen machine gunner in one of distant. The rest of the day was spent recovering, and realizing were all going to die.
