2100 hours                 May 15th 2007

It happened, just as anticipated it happened. It was about 1200 hours we were all resting and tanning outside of our trench barracks. I slept with my helmet over my eyes. In the distance I heard the sound of something taking off similar to a rocket. Then I heard it in flight. Seconds later a tech guy dashed out of the comm center inside the trenches. “Lightening! Lightening! Lighten�"“ he was cut off by a giant explosion hitting “the top.” I looked up and saw a fireball loom over us. A few seconds later a man about 20 feet from me began choking and then croaked “Gas!” and died. Others around him began choking. I sprung to me feet, “Everybody! Masks!” I rushed inside our trench barracks being followed by a frantic crowd of soldiers. I ran to my sleeping bag and grabbed my mask from the side and put it on. Soon the rest of my platoon had done the same. Since so many had rushed into our specific trench barrack, struggles broke out for gas masks. I noticed a pro-drug, anti-war struggling with another man for a gas mask. He then stabbed the man in the kidney and put the mask on. I crawled over to the cokeliner and cut the filter from his gas mask, he began choking. I put my gas mask on the wounded soldier and began dragging him to the sickbay. The outside of the trench was littered with bodies. I passed the tech guy I saw earlier he had been killed by shrapnel. I was dragging him (the wounded soldier) when I felt the barrel of a gun on the back of my head. It was a cokeliner, that’s my new term for an anti-war, pro-drug soldiers even though they mostly did marijuana and alcohol. I looked up and saw Hal standing in front of me Mauser drawn; he let off a burst that killed the cokeliner. I took the cokeliner’s gas mask and Hal and I dragged the wounded man to the sickbay. The rest of the day was spent inside our trench barracks waiting in the taut anticipation for it to be over. Finally at 1615 hours it was declared over and safe.
