Soldier (day by day)

I hate you

               I love you

You tear me down

               You draw me in

With bitter silence

               With your kind words

You break my heart

               You mend my soul

 

And all I think of now is you

And only you can give me strength

Soldier who cries, who yearns to heal

Marksman who only aims to kill

And what am I for wanting you

As you change day by day?

 

I love you

               I hate you

You heal me

               You wound me

Your warm arms

               Your cold shoulder

God-sent medic

               Hell-bent assassin

 

Love, who will you be today?

Oh dear soldier, won't you stay...
