The Saddest Thing

The Saddest Thing

A Poem by A.Lee
"

The saddest thing in the world is loving someone who used to love you. - Unknown

"

I can't tell which is real

All the memories so strong

The dreams when you're with me

Or the days when you're gone

I break my own heart

Every time I reach out

To the person who loved me

But is now filled with doubt

Filled with anger and hatred

Filled with poison and spite

Yet I find myself hoping

And I dream every night

That you'll turn towards me, love

Even just as a friend

Let me make it alright

Let me try once again

That you'll look this way, love

Let me blot the mistakes

Let me make it alright

Whatever it takes...

Yet I wake up and breathe

Let the dreams fade away

You're attacking my heart

And you won't go away

Though I try to forget

You so forcefully stay

And remind me you'll give

No more chances today

I enjoy this

I can relate. Someone once said, it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Sometimes I wonder if there's any truth in that.

I agree with Tina kline i know this feeling very well but it doesn't haunt me like this any more the past is the past it can control us if we don't heal and let it go and stops us from doing many things in life & life is too precious for that. god bless lily

Loving someone who doesn't love you, very painful indeed. A rather all consuming pain that one must fight to overcome. You did a great job on this, really great.

Sometime the second chance allow us to grow stronger. I believe it the reasons for the separation. That allow the growth of a new love or make it impossible to be done. Some deeds can't be forgiven. The poem had a tone of questions and the feel of wanting time to think. A excellent poem.

i must agree with that quote, unrequited love really hurts. this poem is extremely powerful and deep, and very sad. so many broken hearts can relate to this one.
"Filled with anger and hatred
Filled with poison and spite
Yet I find myself hoping
And I dream every night"
now this was the strongest stanza in my opinion. great work!

I agree with the quote, and the poem. Love can be so cruel sometimes, and I really like the poem though, you always put heart and a soul into your work and it shows. :)
