Survive

Survive

A Poem by A.Lee

The damaged soul lies broken, beyond repair
It's been kicked and beaten, battered and bruised
It curls up tight, a tiny shell of what it once was
Yet it survives

Everything has been lost
Lover, friend, brother, and child all faded before tearful eyes
Slipping painfully through desperate fingers
Yet is survives

Nothing to see but eternal darkness
Nothing to feel but the pain of the fire burning, burning
The damaged soul searches for the one star in the sky
But it's not there

The world spins so fast it can't keep up
And all it yearns for is to fall asleep in a cradle of warm arms
Safe for once, loved for once
But the dream's just out of reach

Yet even as its dying, so terrified to breathe
It reaches out for something
Some intangible love
And it survives

Somehow, it survives...

I believe love may disappear for a time. But will appear with a child or someone that will have a the key to open our broken heart. I understand this poem. I been in bad places where booze was my safe haven. I was lucky. I had family and good friends willing to assist me to the right path. I like the ending a lot.

A very sad poem of loss but there is hope at the end, at least there is that.

An excellent write.

great writing on survival, this was powerful and strong. i think we all need a reminder on how powerful the soul can become, and i do believe that this was a great reminder for us all.

There's always a personal touch I feel as a reader when I read your work.
There are always problems. But there's always hope at the end of the tunnel.
A cliche' - I wouldn't call it that. More like a journey I'm witnessing with every piece you write. There's always a certain sense of content too.
You're a survivor and a fighter angela, and you give hope through your words. Which is the best thing you could ever do.

"Safe for once, loved for once"
So tender!

You don't know? I think you do because the poem is great. I think it's a powerful poem, I can sense danger in your words but at the same time there is a glimpse of hope. Great poem!
