Summer Wine

Summer Wine

A Poem by A.Lee

You drift in

A smoky mist, so uninvited

I locked you out so long ago

But still you seep in through the cracks

Saturating the air with your sweet aroma

Filling my head with nonsensical notions

Making me drunk as evening wine

You turn my head

With just a word in the right direction

A never ending reel of tape

Filled with an affluence of memories

Lakeside embraces, rosy sunsets

A tangle of bodies in a grassy field

Undoubted protection

You resisted me

When I pushed you away

Fanned your alluring mist from my eyes

I fancied justice in my actions

For you and for me

There was none

But you remain

You captivate my every moment

Every thought soaked in your intoxicating lure

And I ponder in those ephemeral moments

What could have been

Had I seen what treasure I held in my hands

Before I tucked it away

You

The one who lies in my inner heart

The one who possess the ability

To mend me or tear me down

To wrap me eternally around your finger

With one single word

You

The one who cannot be expunged

Though I tried so hard to push you away

Until I gave in, drank in your memory

Inebriated with your summer wine

Dizzy with fabricated mirth
