Sweet Dreams

Sweet Dreams

A Poem by A.Lee

I cannot sleep

My dreams, they leave me empty handed

Gusts of wind

That give me life then take it back

They bring in hope

That there could be a new tomorrow

That things could change

To something more than what I’ve seen

Sweet memories

I feel you standing there beside me

Don’t want that warmth

Only to have it snatched away

Such searing pain

When every time my eyes reopen

The beauty fades

And everything returns to gray

So I won’t sleep

Won’t step inside the peaceful bliss

Only to wake

And still be standing in the dark

I can totally relate to the concept of this poem. Dreams tend to be so much better than the waking world. You put it beautifully in this piece. It's a sad idea, but true nonetheless, and I couldn't have said it better than you have here. Lovely work!
