Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

A Poem by A.Lee

I am a tiny, ugly, nothing
Each day is just another fight
Trying not to be consumed
By all the pain and hurt of life

I'm facing millions of new battles
Each one stronger than myself
It's hopeless to think I'll overcome
They should have trusted someone else

Soon enough they'll come to see
I'm nothing but a big mistake
There's no way I'll reach the top
I die with every step I take

So I am giving up for good
Wrap myself tight in a safe cocoon
Where nothing bad can ever reach me
I've succumbed to this fateful gloom

But you keep calling from the outside
Begging me to rise again
Your voice infiltrates my enclosure
Why won't you let me just give in?

But soon your prodding gets to me
And with a sigh, I do oblige
But if I fall again (and I will)
Then you can kiss it all good-bye

I built my prison all too well
I have to fight just to escape
But as I finally do emerge
A brand new me starts to take shape

I'm startled as I start to glow
Testing new wings colored bright
As I take off, I hear you whisper
"See, I just knew someday she'd fly!"

I like the way this poem starts out gloomy and ends with a new beginning, a poem of hope in the dark times. I have had dark times and I remember how it felt so safe to stay behind my walls to heal and how difficult it is to emerge out into the world again. Your poem brings memories to me and I feel in your poem a hope for the future. Thank you for sharing.

I like the comparison to a butterfly.... It shows great progression
and i believe that being able to write this shows that you are progressing and will come out of your cocoon in time...

This is one of my favourites of your's love!
Showing that transformation
That insight!
That release from hurt
All the pain
Extinguished
In a new game!
Amazing write!

I can apply this to myself so well. I'm not even in the cocoon yet; I'm still the nothing, letting all this get to me. One day I'll stop listening to them, and it'll take a while longer to become someone new.

But eventually, we'll get there.

a very touching and heart felt expression that offers hope even though it seems the darkness is setting in
sometimes life pushes us to close tight just so we can open up again
wonderful write!

It's a beautiful piece. It's one that many can identify with and the hopeful and positive ending is very encouraging and uplifting. Great job with this feeling.

You have so much talent. That cocoon that feels safe right now will grow to be your enemy one day and you are as i said talented ... you write from the heart with emotion and it shows. Your words touch many .. make us feel... You should be proud of your ability to touch others you are a wonderful writer.

Very very nice. I just love it.
I love how it starts going deeper and hopeless and just at the end it rises.
Additionally, the flow is great.
