The Music

The Music

A Poem by A.Lee

Its raining here tonight

Ten thousand tiny beads of water

Pounding hard against my window

As they etch their perpetual tap, tap, tapping

Deep into my heart

Once I heard only beauty

In nature’s gentle rainy tune

As it hummed through pat, pat, pattering rain

And rocked me in its loving arms

We sang together this lovely song

Now there’s only nothing

The trees don’t whistle anymore

The rain makes random noise not music

As it drip, drip, drips through my leaky roof

And drowns me in its sorrow

The music is all gone

The calming quiet of nature’s song

Now fades away in the midnight showers

As they rata-tat-tat to no one’s ears

Because we’re too wrapped up in ourselves to hear...

But its raining here tonight

Ten thousand tiny beads of water

Pounding hard against my window

As they start their perpetual tap, tap, tapping

The music creeps into my heart

I enjoyed this poem. I love the effects of the tapping sounds throughout the piece. It's a beautiful poem with a lovely fluid flow and a gentle voice heard throughout the lines. Great job.

The rhythm of the rain becomes a music through your words... Somehow... through choices of our own.. the music has faded as the noise of the world grew louder.. Sadly profound, beautifully voiced..

Nice work, my friend. "Rainy days and Mondays," 'if only I could go out and play on a rainy day' type of sentiment. Your poem reminds me of EA Poes "the Raven" ;
"once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered weak and weary ... suddenly there came a rapping there upon my chamber door, ... quoth the Raven Nevermore." That one's about how much ol' Edgar was missing his Lenore, in contrast to you and your last series of crying out for substantial romantic devotion, similar yet very perpendicular expressions.
Great work my dear! BZ

Sad at first and then I was a little on my guard - where was this going? But I appreciate that the fingers point back to us - we are to wrapped up in ourselves. However the most wonderful part - the last, the music creeping back. We are seeing a regeneration and that comes with recognizing that we don't hear the music anymore. Very well said, very well done

An excellent piece of how someone's world has turned upside down and they've gotten a bit lost. But if you allow a bit of reason and forgiveness to creep in, you can get back in sync and start over again. Wonderful imagery.

the imagery is strong; so are the comparisons to what you hear to what you feel. "we are too wrapped in ourselves to hear", interesting and insightful!
