Return My Heart?

Return My Heart?

A Poem by A.Lee

When are you going to let go

Of the grasp you have on me?

YOU turned and walked away

And I’m the one that’s left in pieces

I see you everywhere I go

You’re in my home and on the street

You scarred my soul with retracted love

And you refuse to let me be

I’m so sick of being anguished

Of seeing YOU when I close my eyes

Every time your name pops up

I just break down and start to cry

I want to find out how you’re doing

But I’m scared you’re so far gone

That you’ve forgotten your little sister

Who’s just barely holding on

I really wish you knew how much

It hurt me to see you tear us apart

But if you just cannot come back

Can you at least return my heart?

Your ending verses are always so skilfully effective that it creates a whole different aspect to the poem itself.. It is a great gift to be able to do this so successfully - as in the way a good novelist or screenwriter is adept at writing a good ending. I think a good beginning is equally important -to get BOTH is 'manna from heaven'!- and one or the other will transform a piece of work from the 'average' to the 'good' or the 'good' to the 'exceptional'. I find there are alot of poets who cannot achieve this quite so easily and certainly not so neatly. You sew it all up in accomplished fashion to help bring home the power of the words that have preceded it.
This poem poignantly and honestly personifies a sadness that lurks within the memory of someone or something passed. Like a ghost within the soul. It's well-written and, like i say, beautifully-concluded..

I loved this poem, especially the last two lines. People leave us behind, but the loving and the caring stay!
