Living For You

Living For You

A Poem by A.Lee

Why is it that I find myself

Living for you, not me?

No matter how far away I move

You just won’t let me be

I can duck and I can dodge

Hide behind the tallest mount

But every time I look back

You still seem to be gaining ground

I can never see your face

You’re just a shadow in my mind

But its not that I forgot

Its because you left me behind

But how am I behind

If every day you’re chasing me?

Because I’m living my life for you

Hoping that one day you’ll see

I’m not the girl I was before
I did  things wrong I will admit

But if you take the time to look

You’ll see now all the pieces fit

You’ll take me in your arms again

Let me be your little girl

And I’ll love you like I did before

Then we’ll take on the world

You left me far behind that day

You turned and let me go

But to this day your shadow follows me

Instead of fading, it has grown

Why is it that I find myself

Living for you, not me?

Trying so hard to be the girl

That you’d wanted me to be?

This poem sounds like a song in my head. Although it's heart-wrenching, but it's good enough to pour such emotion out.

Wow. This is incredible and applies to SO much people. You have touched my heart, and I am sure many other peoples' as well. Great, great write.

I sense that implied "father-daughter" appeal other reviewer have mentioned. If that was what you were going for, I applaud you for doing so, without ever using the word 'father'. Either way, it was a wonderful write. Profoundly felt

makes me think of a little girl and being a daddies girl i went though the almost same thing as my dad was there then left cause he was dealing with drinking cause his father never praised him so he never healed from it but i knew he loved me but hes not the same man he once was and i am nothing like him but i know he would be proud of me today of what a beautiful young woman i have become my mother is i know my dad but he's a stranger to me and also his own mother even though we know its him. Nice work clap clap

I feel that the person you mention is
Somebody who was very close to you….
May be your parent…..
Because….all of us enjoy being a slave…
Both intellectually and emotionally to our near and dear ones….to some extent….
Nice work….

Poem is powerful and the feel of sadness. We must live for our goals and dreams. Other people need to want us for what we are and what we going to be. I could feel the struggle. Be proud and stand tall. Giving and receiving should be a 50-50 effort. A excellent poem.
