Awaken My Heart

Your warm inviting eyes

They hold the key to my very soul

Days, months, and years go by

But the grip you have on me stays whole

 

You captured my heart in a moment of time

I finally felt complete

You’re love, your care, your hopeful smile

You swept me off my feet

 

Your love was almost too much to bear

I made a decision all too fast

You and I got swept away

Because I was sure it couldn’t last

 

But I can still see your beautiful face

Your gorgeous colored eyes

I can still feel the warmth of your skin

As you placed your hand over mine

 

You held me close when I needed a friend

And to this day you’ve never left

No, I walked away for reasons untold

Thinking I knew what was best

 

Yet every time you come around

My heart just leaps for joy

My knees go weak the moment you speak

Oh God, you beautiful boy

I dont know how I still love you
Even when I've found someone new
Although I'm happy where I am
My thoughts still turn to you

 

It’s burning love I can’t turn aside

Even as days stretch on to years

And I can’t understand why after so much time

Your song my heart still hears

Not my favorite.... Once again, I wasn't intending to rhyme it just kind of came out that way. Thought given to me by a friend.

Holy crap. Is it me saying these things...or is it you? I know the love you describe. I still feel it for one that I'm not with. I thought I knew best. We have both moved forward, but we've never moved on. You do such a good job of translating the language of the heart and speaking feelings that so many of us have struggled with. Great poetry! It outlines those things that every soul that's ever loved completely has known but been unable to share easily with the world in human language.

Ah, the last line, "Your song, my heart still hears." It's wonderful. This is such a nice, simple love poem, although it is sad within, but the memory of it never dies. Very nice :)
