Sweet Baby Boy

Sweet Baby Boy

A Poem by A.Lee
"

for my son

"

I walked into the room one day

To catch you coyly grinning my way

My phone you held in your little hand

Into puppy’s water dish I watched it land

Then to the potty I sent you to sit

Turning my back for just a bit

I spin around, poke my head through the door

Now nothing but tissues cover the floor

I took you outside, such a nice warm spring day

I was sure you’d be good if I left you to play

It was time to come in after almost an hour

And you smile at me… With a mouthful of flowers

The sun starts to set and I put you to bed

Fluffing the pillow to lay ‘neath your head

I sigh as I think of the day that we had

Busy and frustrating, though not horribly bad

You look up at me as I turn out the light

“I love you, mommy.  See you later.  Good night.”

Even as I walk out I trip over your toy

But it’s perfectly fine, you’re my sweet baby boy

-For my beautiful little boy-

A lovely tribute to your son. This piece took me back thirty odd years, when my own sweet baby boys put everything in their sweet little mouths. Great piece.
