Mercy

Mercy

A Poem by Charlène Boutin
"

...

"

I have fallen in a river

Drowning in the coldest water

The chill's teeth biting me harder

Than ever;

Struggling to survive

Fighting to stay alive

But is it all worth the trouble?

Since I am nothing but a pebble

Among billions more yet

Why take the time to fret?

If the water be merciful

And let my sore lungs free

Will I just be sorrowful

Like I was meant to be?

If I take a breath of air

Will I sink back in despair?

Is salvation at my door

Or will I just drown once more?

Or will a merciful soul

Pull me away from the hole?

What a beautiful write... woven with such painful experience, yet holding onto a lingering hope... Your honesty and emotional expression have an amazing depth. May you find all you could ever hope for...
