WaveA Poem by Charlène BoutinWritten as the winter starts to drape its arms around us.
I've been washed ashore a stream,
Its waters were cold, and now this cold Sinks through my clothes and my skin Down into my bones, Deep where it clutches like damn devil's fingers And I shiver, shiver, shiver until Every ounce of my being, Every molecule crowded inside of my shell Is now covered with ice. Beep beep beep beep go the beats of my heart, Faster, increasing now at every second It goes into motion, but I'm still not moving And I close my eyes to shield the sound, But it won't, It won't leave, It drums and it echoes and reverbrates on, And on, and on. So fast like a humming, the drone of a bee While the cold has reclaimed most of my consciousness A dreamless sleep where everything remains quiet Except that one thing, Going so fast now my whole body's singing And somehow a warmth emanating from there Where my heart radiates Till the end of my fate. Waves of warmth weave their way without restraint This certainty pulls me out of the deep waters And my molecules are now awake with a vengeance Embracing the life that flows out of my heart, This heart, A pillar within my chest, all of my being And where I shall stay for the night.
