Maggie

Maggie

A Poem by c k doley

Under a warm sun in winter

 And i think of her...

 Of fermented llimbs

Turned a second skin, and her soft ones.

 Of wet forest and undergrowth;

I, being away in the urban

Under a warm sun in winter i day-dream...

The night be daring, then caring

 We will elope.

You bring alongwith you naught, but your heart

You might steal your mother's ege!

 Your sorrowful voice whisper,

 'Goodbye dear dilapidated family'.

Across the river by a boat, in the quiet dawn,

Before whispers spread and begin the hunt.

The scandal, O what a scandal!

My parents be a disgrace to the tribe.

But i be tough, rich and influential.

I be a mad man, mad in love,

And far, very far away in Lima or Bogota.

I will dress you in designer, Gucci and Prada,

You be my wife, you be my mata.

We will smell of over-ripe guava,

Fingers intertwined in our nupital bed.

And you be rise and i see your back

Wrapped in white sheet, dried blood in the midst.

Still under a warm sun in winter

Verses i will write, verses for you...
