Brothers Be

Brothers Be

A Poem by Mary E Green

I have seen that gaze before, where,  I could not say for sure.  A collage of familiar faces in this one glance- too many to know yet I know them all somehow.   A sensation that rises your memories from their night's slumber or a voice that has been carried on a passing breeze. That moment- you are deeply rooted in two places at once.

This very gaze has been present throughout the fabric of life, weaving a family's tapestry.  A piece of the times that have been and those that are yet to come.  It is an expression that is more than just this moment, but still every bit in this moment I am able to see them all.  For the day that this glance is no more, nor will I be.

There is a family heritage that is revealed in the demeanor and faces of siblings if one so chooses to look and contemplate. With a reflective glance you've written an introspective poem that not only speaks of the past but of a foreshadowing future.

Written after a moment seeing an expression on my brother's face that resonanted within me...hence above. A comforting reflection - as family we are bond together by nature no matter all else.
