AcheA Poem by Bethany Wong
Oh God.
How is it I can bear it?
When in my unguarded moments,
Unbidden, come images of you
With me.
How is it I can live so close to what I cannot have,
dying a little every day, and yet not die?
Oh God,
When you turn that smile on me
And for a moment in my mind
We are lovers
Sharing a secret.
Then the moment passes
And I just smile and laugh
Or make and appropriate sound
Forgetting what joke was made
In the light of you.
Oh God.
When I notice something,
The curve of your neck
The swell of your breasts
The press of your hand on my arm
The feather-touch of your breath on my cheek
And for a moment lust dizzies me.
I want to kiss
I want to touch
I want to take
But I cannot © 2009 Bethany Wong |
