Bushy-Man

Bushy-Man

A Poem by J. Hampton
"

an Oldie ...about Our lame-duck ....addressing .. "we should make sure home is right "... I mean if our own house isn't in order...then ..... ( what does that say )

"

1st  let me say …I love my country…and although I don’t agree with Bushs’ political moves …I still pray for him ..better to pray for the President you have  than ….the one that you don’t.  I wrote this after his girls got busted underage in a bar in town when they attended Yale University. I felt bad after 911 and no longer performed this for a while.

Newscasters stage-left

It’s a quarter to seven.

Snoozed through the news

in my chair

like I care …..

I’ll catch the film at eleven.

I Hear the Bushy Man’s makin’ a speech

On the state of the nation.

An address on the mess

A fireside chat

Pervading all stations…..

“ Bushy-man ….Bushy-man…the polls are are still warm

the ballots are dimpled….the counters …all gone

victory the same size

as the  margin that won “

How’s it feel to be large and in charge

Of a people in chaos ?

Poverty…agony

Scandals and lay-offs

Social security cuts…

Less welfare…

More pay-offs .

Insider trading

The stars and the stripes

With a faith ever fading.

Campaign contributions

“Pacs” …n’ the like.

Tax breaks for Big-Daddies

Keep that list outta sight.

Bushy-man high horse

Top-Dog and all that.

Now that the budget’s

All balanced and fat.

Clipped the wings from the programs

That do the hopeless some good.

Never saw you campaign

In our neighborhood !

Just back-scratchin’ buddies

Yeah…you know the ones

That avoid  tricky questions

When the cats’ got your tongue.

Bushy-man…Bushy-man …

You need to check home

Your own house aint’ in order

Your children alone.

.Ivy-league …Underage

caught up like the rest

center-front-page.

Fell short of the nest.

Republican Math…

How can it be ?

You sell the soul of a country

So cheap …

Like the price

Of a homemade

 fake ID.

Last Sunday (8th Feb.) President and Mrs. Bush honoured Abraham Lincoln's 199th Birthday. President Bush remarked, "He was a fabulous man, and a great President. His life was one of humble beginnings, and steadfast convictions. And so we celebrate his deeds, we lift up his ideals, and we honour this good man." The key words being - we lift up his ideals.

On the same day, this statement was reported;

'About 3.5 million US residents (about 1% of the population), including 1.35 million children, have been homeless for a significant period of time. Over 37,000 homeless individuals (including 16,000 children) stay in shelters in New York every night. This information was gathered by the Urban Institute, but actual numbers might be higher.'

And theses are just the official guess-taments!

Bushy-man, bushy-man, who's got the spin! Great write - says it all really!

I think the new administration is going to end up biting us all in the butt. Obama's decision making hasn't been all that great either so far and I am not sure the "Change" proposed is going to be the "Change" we were all hoping for? I am like you Jen in that I will continue praying for our President, simply because it is a command...but I'm not going to say I am not concerned for how it is looking. I just think we will end up paying in the long run for all that is on the fore front if it goes through. We can't compromise Godly values or God's word...Not now, not ever without paying the consequences. Just some thoughts....

Interesting.
And yet we saw Congress yesterday (1-22-09), while supporting Obama's new administration of "change", rush through the approval process of Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary. A man who could not manage to pay his taxes for the last four or more years. "Mistakes" are his downfall he said before Congress.
Today we see that President Obama's pick for a high-ranking Defense Department job needs a waiver from strict rules approved only two days ago that limit the role lobbyists can play in the new administration.
See story from NPR below:
"All Things Considered, January 23, 2009 Two days after President Obama issued new ethics rules for top administration officials, a coalition of Washington watchdog groups is calling on a Senate committee to reject the president's choice for a key position at the Defense Department, on grounds that approving the nomination would undermine the ethics policy.
William Lynn III's selection as deputy defense secretary is on hold at the Senate Armed Services Committee while committee chairman Carl Levin (D-MI) awaits more information about Lynn's background. Lynn was a registered lobbyist for Raytheon, a prominent defense contractor, within the past two years - a violation of the executive order signed by Obama Wednesday."

This is Friday, day three of the new administration... I can't wait to see what "change" is in store for the weekend.

I'm excited about the possibilities too, don't get me wrong. But If this is what we can expect from the new administration for the next four years I don't really see much change. In fact, so far it's just been more of the same.

This was a really good poem Jen! But you know what it says in the Bible? God raises up the person he wants in power. He may not be a good leader, but I think the man upstairs did it for a reason? Maybe for the nation to see that they better pay atention to the things that matter. Like voting(smile) You see we have made the largest turn outs in the polls this year? History will be made this time around and I'm glad to be alive to see it.
As always I love reading your work(smile) It always makes me think, and thats a good thing.
Thanks for sharing.

Like the contrast between the languor of you sitting there in the newsroom and the vigour of what follows. The questions are well put and I like the line about 'back-scratching buddies'. I am sure Bush would like things to be better on his watch were it to be possible, but I am equally sure that like all ambitious alpha males the most important thing to him is power.

This was postively wonderful. You are really well informed on the issues. I wish that most voters would research the issues half as much as you:

"Clipped the wings from the programs
That do the hopeless some good.
Never saw you campaign
In our neighborhood !"

That's great. It sums up our new "government disservice" extremely well. If you don't live in the Hamptons, you don't get service.

"Just back-scratchin' buddies
Yeahyou know the ones
That avoid tricky questions
When the cats' got your tongue."

Exactly. It is a conspiracy to keep 99.999999999% of the people out of the government. Do you have any idea how many programs we have had to cut to pay for our silly oil colony?

Great write! Keep it up!

Actually, I'm praying for the one we don't have and that I do want in office. Not looking too good for him, though, media doesn't even like to admit he exists, but exist he does. This was a great piece, the flow, the rhymes, the message. Still relevant, too. Good to see you are piecing back your words with the reviews, it is a good thing! Much love~~
