Alaskan MountainsA Story by ByroneusAlaskan Mountains Over the summer of 2007 I went with a group from my church to Alaska on a missions trip. While there we were flying from Anchorage to Junio. From the plane windows there was a beautiful view to be seen. The mountains below were covered in snow so white that it was hard to tell where clouds began and snow shelves ended, they were like fortresses of the ancients.“Whose refuge will be the mountain fortress.” (Isaiah 33:16). The kings that rule these fortresses are not of man but of beast, they are the eagles, the mountain goats and rams, these are the only ones to venture up this far and call it home. Most of the mountains were carved in a deep snow and the bottoms of none of them were visible because of the ice field and glaciers that covered them. The glaciers that carve this land are like slow lumbering behemoths which neither water nor rock will stop or deter their course. As I look down on the land I could see how the behemoths have carved out the land; where the glaciers have retreated there are deep canyons and gorges, and massive valleys. This land is untamed, cold and mysterious, holding many secrets which will be revealed over times to come and some will never be revealed. A last frontier to show God’s glory, and power. So beautiful that it brings a tear to my eye. This is where the craving of the north comes from. Where you see the wonders of God and hear the beautiful song that it sings back to him in praise, this song is untamed, asong out in the open where everyone can hear it. Yet sadly after witnessing this some people will still refuse God. Once I was told a saying, “he told the stars where to be and to shine and they did, he told the galaxies to spin and they did, he told the waters to go this far and no further and they did, then he told man to believe in him and they said no.” How sad this is, yet as Christians it is our job to bring people back to the word and hope that this time they will say yes © 2014 Byroneus |
