Washboard Blues

Washboard Blues

Rub a dub dub, I'm an old man in a tub
My little lady says, its time for a scrub
A child worry's about soap in their eyes
As the man in this tub, I will tell you no lies

What is definitely on this mans mind
Fear for my sensitive parts and my bare behind

Well soap in the eyes is sure no fun
But when I look at that washboard
I'm sure thinking, it's time to run
Soon I need to make my move
For I have the washboard blues

The smile on my ladies face
yes says just one thing to me
She's enjoying this way to much
for my liking you see

As we battle it out in the tub
I wonder what could be the score
I want to know just one thing
what's that darn washboard for

I protect my sensitive parts, make no mistake
I still make plans, as I hope for an escape
But she knows all my great moves
I still sit here, with these washboard blues

Don't get me wrong
for I love this lady you see
But that washboard sure is haunting me
What could be on her mind, this lovely after noon
I know one thing, I should make my break real soon

I know laundry for her is no fun
But it's my bare butt, out here in this scorching hot sun
Yes I have those dreaded washboard blues
Please someone give me some news

This trembling body of mine not to metion my
wrinkled behind, can't take much more
Tell me please
what is that darn washboard for

Has the laundry put her in this fowl mood
Does my lady also have the washboard blues
I must do something and real fast
You know, to save my poor wrinkled a*s

Honey I have great news
I can solve your washboard blues
Today I will do the laundry
if you could just turn me loose

My lady oh what a great sport
She just danced away as she said

GOOD!!

you can start with your shorts

I may have spoke way to soon
For I still have these washboard blues
I scrub my shorts on this old washboard of mine
I'm just glad it's not my poor wrinkled behind

I always love reading your poems. They always put a smile on my face:).
The man in the tub, the woman taunting the man with the washboard to
get him to do the laundry...seems like that was a smart woman LOL!!

The pictures you added are great as always:) AD

Well sweetie I read this when it first came across my screen and my little piece of velcroe would not leave me alone long enough to give you a descent review. LOL
This is so cute and brought me a smile when I first read it and another this morning as I read it again. Wash boards are a little rough I would think on the backside for sure. We going to have to come and rescue you from that too? ROTFL Only problem Donna has been in a rather spunky mood so she might bring an even bigger one with us. As always Ray you have left me with a smile and a tune that will follow me now all day long. As someone we know and love would say You take care of you.

Hugs,
Lesa

Gee, Ray, you really have a gift for bringing back long forgottens. Back in England when I was very small - just after the war - and during those long cold winters like the winter of 1947 (13 foot snow drifts), I remember vividly my mother carting the old galvanised tub into the living room, putting it in front of the fire and filling it, with endless trips to the sink in the kitchen. Then my sister and I took it in turns to get scrubbed, in front of the fire. I haven't seen one of those old tubs for years, but you certainly brought it all back.
(By the way, at the time I can remember leaning out of my upstairs bedroom window and touching the top of the snowdrift at the back of the house. It had covered the entire lower storey of the house, blocking off the back door completely so my father had to get a piece of board and push his way out of the house through the drift. At the same moment US aircraft were being shot down, flying along the autobahns in Germany, by the Russians, during the Berlin Airlift).

Alright, Ray-- who have you been fooling around in the tub with? Something must have inspired this. Seriously, though, my mother actually did give me baths in an old galvanized tub when I was small. Are your fingers all wrinkley yet? How about your......?
