I've Been Down That Road Before

I've Been Down That Road Before

A Poem by Ray Hamilton

I've Been Down That Road Before

See all these knots, on my bald head
They didn't get there, by me lying home in bed

I have traveled down this rough and rocky road
Tried my hardest, to carry the heaviest of loads

Worked hard for those, who would call me their love
When things got rough they flew away, fast as a dove

They say that a new broom, will always sweep clean
Then emerges a side of them, that you never have seen

Been down this rough and rocky road before
My heart has been stomped on, beaten and sore

You know this is not my first, dog and pony show
But down that road called love, I think again I must go

Again I will give my heart, to the one I call my love
Give thanks for bringing her, to the great man above

Yes I have traveled down, this rough and rocky road before
You see that's how my heart got, so beaten and sore

Although in the past, there has been lies and pain
I will probably give, that thing called love a try again

No one can hurt you, like the one you love
You must look for guidance, from that man above

See all these knots, on my bald head
They didn't get there, by me lying home in bed

You see I've been down, ~ ~ That rough and rocky road before

See all these knots, on my bald head - I really like this line.

Despite the rough and rocky road you bring humour and charm to the subject and I think the rhyming couplets work well in this piece.

We all seem to make numerous journeys down that road despite the blisters it can give us.

A very enjoyable and fluent read.

Why is it that all the people that know the true meaning of what it is to love, are the ones that get hurt over and over again. I am so sorry that you have walked this road Ray. This is a wonderful write as always. Now the key for you is to start walking on the path again, and those I so love be nudged to start at the other end. Maybe there could be a happy middle ground somewhere for you to be found. Hugs sweetie. Sure hope you are feeling better. Your musketeers have been worried about you.

This is a sweet, yet humorous poem.
A conviction of the man that you are.
You always seem to make a smile when even
writing of the could be tears. It seems from some
of the poems I have reviewed that you've been hurt a lot,
but making the most of it through poems. Thanks for
sending me the request....I do love reading your work. AD

Great poem, Ray! Why do we keep trying again? I have no idea.

You always find a way to make humor part of a serious situation and you know that is a gift I wish I had! Fantastic write. I too believe that we travel the rough and rocky road called love many times in our lives, but all the bumps are worth it even with out broken souls and hearts! Once again a truly enjoyable read my dear!

Love Lots!

Wow! What an analogy. Sir, I have become your disciple. Obviously, you are a poet, a poets poet. Why do you call yourself as " not a poet"?

I like the poem very much.

Thanks for sharing.

Been there, done that, Ray. I still have my hair, so my knots are hidden. I married my first wife twice, and that's all I'll admit to here, but there was more. Sam
