UN-Lucky One

UN-Lucky One

A Poem by Unclouded Eyes
"

about plight of the Home-less souls

"

Sleep crust fall from his eyes

As the old man awakens

Mornin’? Already, rubbing his eyes

Got to get moving, don’t let them see

People will be out soon, goin’ to work, he thinks

Bones crackle away the stiffness in the cold

Glad he has the coat those ladies gave him.

The warmth from the heat vent, left for the day

Got to get to Mac’s, check and see

Maybe someone left him a biscuit or muffin

Even a pack of jelly would be good

Guy at the day labor told him, “Don’t come back”

He had tried to get help

With the boxes he had dropped

They were just too heavy, awkward

No one told him they were full of glass

He had hoped for a regular job

“I just can’t keep going like this”

Bad luck the tables were bused

Before he got there

No breakfast again.
