~desire and mangos

~desire and mangos

A Poem by Katherine Wyatt

He wanted her sex it was his sex, but he needed an object of affection
someone to project his desires upon
a virtual mistress
an effigy to exchange words with
without breaking his wedding vows

it was an exercise in the profane

She was the kind of woman that loved words
shared poetry and the deep flavor of a piece of music
craving connection
her physical desires grew from spirit gifts shared

He talked about dreams, the language she spoke in
but his dreams were the dry salt mines of a hungry ghost
his words fell to the floor, diminished by his right hand
it was a fantasy with no light, no wings for flight

She chose cerulean sunlit skies and velvet nights painted with starlight
a thousand suns and the courage to merge dreams and reality
she was breast and flesh and dance and song

Cardboard was tasteless
she was tangible and her skin savory as mango and papaya

She choked back and spit out his blacklight
The summer sun called her to
green and crimson sunsets

He carried on as his tradition dictated
She created her own
… pulled his teeth from her skin
following the rivulets of the brackish waters
leaving him…. behind her

I am the song the trees whisper in the wind. I am the strength of the mighty mountains. I am the song of the birds in the morn. I am always being reborn. I am a traveler in and out of space and time... more..
