The Sweeping Beauty

The Sweeping Beauty

A Poem by EMMIE

The brick house
What a sight to see
So eloquent and peaceful
Strong and standing tall
A beauty on the outside
Rotting on the inside
Dirt to the ceiling

And the Sweeping Beauty

Sweeps the dirt
Right under the rug
No one would see
Under the rug

Sweeping Beauty

Locks the snakes
In the room with no windows
Sweeps the broken glass
In an isolated corner
Fills the empty fruit basket
With plastic apples and oranges
And when the beautiful brick house
Starts to rot again
She repeats the cycle

The Sweeping beauty

Have you been to her house
Are you there now
I am

You killing it. Sweeping beauty Lol great job. It's about time for all of us to start cleaning house. Or at least. Dig a little deeper before you cop a squat. Loved it

This reminds me of my Irish mother-in-law who used to say, "Don't air your dirty laundry for the neighbors to see." One never knows what truly goes on behind closed doors. Well done, poet!

At least we've got a clean house-

this poem could stand a part two, with a 2nd voice calling her to wake, from this daze and be bold to throw open the windows to this old home.

Thank you!
In my opinion, this poem talks about a down to earth beautiful woman living with a bad family and even though they are rotten, she seems to be loyal to them and tries to cover up their mess, in short, she is a good person in a bad place. Thank you for sharing.

this is anything but depressing. very well penned indeed and the message is clear. try to cover up the rotting inside so the ouside may appear bright (with a smile?)

You are welcome Emmie.
This one gave very little but left a lot to explore in some simple words.

These words got to me. They made me uncomfortable as the scenery playing out in my mind was all too real. I saw too much to read on without feeling fear and anxiety, but I couldnt look away. It was strange how calm the sweeping beauty seemed to be. I cant even imagine what would be said if these walls could talk. This is powerful work. I was taken in and entirely enveloped by sights and sounds of this house.
