The Girl and the DogA Poem by EMMIE
Little Hope had once a daddy
Little Hope had once a mommy But on a dark and gloomy day Came a man from far away A man who's name was Master Slave Mean and white as day Slave took her parents away And Hope was left alone Until she came upon a man A man who was selling a dog A dog named Freedom Freedom for sale, freedom for sale And our little Hope With a look as curious as it could be Asked the man with the dog What is the price of Freedom How much does he cost And with a devilish smile the man said A week's worth of labor You can have Freedom With a grin on her face Hope looked into the eyes of Freedom And that sweet little dog As sweet as he could be Kissed Hope on the knee Love it was indeed But the man pulled the dog away And sternly looked at Hope to say First you MUST pay So Hope went with the man To foreign fields far away Hard labor day after day But a week turned into two And then a month And then a few But that loyal dog Always there sleeping at her feet So close yet impossible to reach Tomorrow, Hope I will give you Freedom as your pay The old man would say But tomorrow came and went And ten years later Sweet little Hope grew bitter She grew angry and bigger Mad at the world And tired as ever There in the fields she met a man named Courage Having all the same struggles Courage and Hope grew stronger together And on a dark and gloomy day They went to the old man to say Give us our Freedom or die today And that old man had no choice For at his neck a sharp knife lay So there was Hope and Courage Running far, far away With Freedom leading the way They ran and they ran Day and night without rest Until they came up on a filed of roses And there they finally rest Among the sweetest aroma Look into the beauty of a rose And you will see them Still sitting there today.....
