~A Friendly Game~

A wooden spoon,

Across the bottle lay;

The perfect toy

For cat and mouse to play.

Said the Cat to the Mouse:

‘Come hither my friend,

And I’ll teach you to fly.

To the counter you go,

For food, you’ll be my spy.

Said the Mouse to the Cat:

‘Fly you say?

What business is this?

Crazy cat go play,

I’ve no wish to be squished!’

Said the Cat to the Mouse:

‘Look around my friend,

The humans are gone.

Now to the counter you’ll go,

They’ll be back before long.’

Said the Mouse to the Cat:

‘I’ll be your spy,

After a deal we make.

To the counter I’ll fly,

Then you’ll let me escape.’

Said the Cat to the Mouse:

‘I’m hurt that you’d think,

In my belly you’d sleep.

My dessert you’ll not be,

My promise I’ll keep.’

Said the Mouse to the Cat:

‘Since your word I have,

On the spoon I’ll fly,

If you share the food

On the counter I spy!’

Said the Cat to the Mouse:

‘My mouth is large,

But the crumbs you’ll eat.

Now on the spoon you go,

Hold tight with your feet.’

To the counter he flew;

Pushed food to the floor,

Filled his belly with crumbs,

Then jumped for the door.

Said the Cat to the Mouse:

‘How dare you run!

In my belly you’ll sleep,

It’s not full yet;

I’m sure you’ll taste sweet!’
