What lies behind the mask that people wear? A really old poem of mine

Everywhere you go,

people are smiling

But is it real?

What lies behind those smiles,

behind the cheer

What pain and suffering,

lies just behind

What anger and frustration,

is hidden with a smile

What sadness and sorrow,

disappear behind the cheer

Wherever you go,

you'll see smiling,

But what lies behind the mask?
