Caught in Dreamland

Poem about a girl's adventures in Dreamland

Every time I fall asleep

My dreams would take over

They'd take me to distant worlds

For all kinds of adventures

And every time I'd start to wake

They'd beg me to stay for more

 

For a long time I declined

I knew I couldn't stay

But one day my life went bad

And I only wanted to get away

So I forced myself to fall asleep

And met with my friends

 

“Lets go on a long adventure”

I told my friends

And like anyone else in dreamland

They were always ready for adventure

So we went to a new world

On a trip better than any other before

 

That day we explored a forest

We found secret paths in the trees

And found creatures never before seen

We explored for hours on end

Sharing stories and jokes all the way

I've never had a more fun time in my life

 

Then we came upon a waterfall

The most beautiful thing I've ever seen

My friends gestured towards it

I wanted to follow  them

But I felt that it was time to wake up

That it was time to leave this place

 

But I didn't want to go

The waterfall beckoned me

But then I thought about what happened at home

I made my decision

And I turned to my friends waiting for me

“Let's continue exploring”

 

Though I felt a tug in my heart

A sharp warning pain

I ignored it and continued to play

After a while the pain went away

Though I was worried about what it meant

I pushed it out of my mind

 

Time continued to pass

We went on adventure after adventure

And I soon forgot everything

About where I was

Why I was there

And about the real world

 

Dreamland was my home

I didn't know who I was

Where I came from

Or why there was a pain in my chest

Everything was about having fun

There were no worries here

 

By time I finally remembered

It was far too late

When I closed my eyes

And opened them again

I was still in dreamland

It had become my reality

 

It didn't concern me for long however

For in dreamland

There are no worries

So my problems were soon forgotten

As I continued adventuring

With my dreamland friends

 

And now I've made new friends

Those who still belong to reality

It made me wonder about my friends

And whether they had come from reality too

Now I always remind my friends to leave

Lest they be entranced by the wonders of dreamland

very similar to wonderland i really like the adventure the poem takes you on though i felt like it lost me a little half way, keep up the good work

It becomes very repetitive and the story itself drags on I feel unnecessarily. I'd suggest shortening the whole poem and using a variety of adjectives and less repetition of words such as "and" or "then" unless of course this is your intentional style. I hope this helps

An enticing Wonderland-esque piece that I found to be quite relatable.
Everyone has a moment at some point in their life where they wish to run away and escape. I feel you imagined up a wonderful way to articulate it in a poetic fashion.
