Lies

Lies

A Poem by Raspberries and Nuclear Warfare

They told me to write
They told me to put thoughts on paper
To make masterpieces out of my mazes
They told me that it could silence them
That it could keep out the voices of those who could and can't
The voices of those who never were and never tried

They told me to write numbers in notebooks, scratch faces from photos
That I could be the next Nash or Einstein
Fly with a flock of invisible birds
Watch a stream of water drain out of my life
And a waterfall return

I think they may have lied to me
