The Lights

The Lights

A Poem by Lily M. Noithe

The grass flies by

In the Light of passing cars-

Home is still far.

I hear the diesel hum and purr-

Seemingly the soundtrack of my

Life.

Forever a comfort-

An anecdote to my worry and strife.

The road lines a blur,

It makes me happy-

That’s for sure.

I cannot reason

With my Grief,

I cannot please them

And their beliefs.

Change the season

As you may,

But I will always

Be this Way.

Oh how the cross mirror

Reflects the Light,

Like my eyes-clearer-

That now shine bright.

The dash emits

That soothing glow-

Their beauty in the night

On the road they throw.

They do not see

But my Buses

Comfort me.

As my journey

Nears its close,

The mirror’s reflection

Is in my Prose.

I shut my eyes

And open my mind,

Fully understanding what I

Chose:

To follow the inclined.

I open my ears-

And listen!

For the Buses that glisten,

I am happy now-

In the comfort

Of the Lights.
