Another WIP just saving all of my stuff online.

I am breathing.

I should be dead, but I'm breathing. I can heard the sound of a nearby stream. I don't remember being anywhere near a stream.

I don't remember anything.

My name is Alison Connor, and I'm going to find out what happened to me.

It's the end of August, and I'm getting ready to head back to school,.

I finally got my last bag packed, and put into my car, when my adopted mom walked out of the house,”Are you going to stay in touch this time?”

I roll my eyes,”No, I'm not.” I close the trunk to my car, and walk to the drivers door.

“You know, we do love you, and we miss you all the time.” She grabs at her skirt.

“No, you don't, you just say that so that I feel bad. You've never loved me. I'm the unwanted adopted child. Frank told me how you tried to cancel the adoption when you found out you were pregnant.” I know it's mean to throw that back in her face, but I was always the one being ignored, I was always the one who they thought was doing something bad.

She looked down,”I know, and I'm sorry, but I wanted you after everything was finalized, I just, I...” She looked down the road, it was usually pretty dead, but this was strange, not a single sound, no kids playing, no dogs barking.

“Look, I don't need you to lie to me anymore, I'm not a dumb little kid. And anyways, I've got to go, I'll see you when I see you.” I got into my car and started it.

She got a nasty look and yelled at me,”You are a no grateful, worthless piece of garbage, I should have sent you back to the agency.”

I backed out, and didn't think twice about it. Why was I at such a horrible place, simple, I had to get the rest of my stuff out of there, before they sold it.

I drove down the road, to the nearest gas station, I stopped, filled my tank, went in to use the bathroom, I was standing in front of the mirror, my bright red hair always distracted me, it was just everywhere. I looked away and went on with my business. I went to wash my hands, and again the mirror taunted me, I was so white, I made ghosts look tan, and my frizzy fire red hair just looked off against my skin.

No wonder no one wanted me, I looked strange. I had dark black eyes, full lips, fire red hair, ivory skin, pockmarked from all of my teenage acne. I could never get the circles under my eyes to go away, and my checks were just too big.

I left the bathroom, and picked up a small bag of chips and some snack cakes before grabbing a bunch of energy drinks. I walked up to the counter, and it was an old friend of mine working.

“Hey Ali, I didn't know you were in town.”

“Hey Chris, yea, I just got here today, and I'm leaving again, you know how Marie and Frank hate me, so I have no where to stay. Plus schools going to be starting soon.”

Chris wasn't a bad looking guy, but he'd never been on a date before, most of the girls said it was because he spent all of his time with 'The Freak' aka me. He had short black hair, a slight tan, and bright green eyes.

He rung up all of my stuff, and I gave him the exact change. He smiled at me.

“So guess what, even though you left, I still haven't been on a date.”

“Really, girls here are just mean. I mean they said they'd probably date you if I left, and I left, why would they say that.”

His smiled never faltered,”Because they're jealous of you.”

I rolled my eyes, and returned his smile,”If only.”

He released his face,”So you were just going to leave without seeing me?”

“Yea, I guess I was, I didn't really think about it.”I look out at my car, then back at him, “Well I have a long drive ahead of me, so I'm going to go.”

He just nodded, and right after I opened the door,”I'll be seeing you in California.”

I stopped dead in my tracks, and turned back towards him,”What do you mean? I thought you weren't planning on going to college?”

“I changed my mind, so I applied to Stanford, I'm heading out tomorrow.”Well now I'm pretty sure he's following me more then going to college.

“That's great.”I put my finger on my chin,”Maybe if I had a place to stay tonight, we could drive there together.”

That brought the smile back,”You know my mom will never say no to you being there over night.”

“So it's a deal?”

“Yea it's a deal, just head over to my parents place.”

I walked out of the store, and hopped into my car, and drove across town, and stopped infront of a small square house. A lot smaller then the one I grew up in, but I definitely prefered this one. I walked up to the door, and rang the doorbell. It took a little bit, but the door was answered.

“Hi Miss Hooper.”

She looked a little confused,”Alison, I thought you were in California, that's why Chris is going there tomorrow.”

“I already saw him, and he said I could stay here tonight and were driving there tomorrow. I'm just in town picking up the rest of my things from Marie's place.”

She opened the door the rest of the way,”That makes, sense, and of course you can stay here, just come on in, and make yourself at home.”She closed the door behind me, and walked in to the kitchen,”So how did it go seeing Marie after you just up and left across the country?”

“Same as usually, trying to tell me that she wanted me to stay, then yelling at me. Before I even got to my room Frank was already doing the usual thing.”

“Why would he think you'd steal his money to buy drugs?”

“I don't know, maybe because their precious little Hannah always did, and blamed it on me.”

“How is Hannah anyways?”

“She's in rehab, but her parents don't know.”

“Really, don't you think you should tell them?”

“So they'll think I'm lying again? I think I'll just let them hate me, and love her, eventually she'll mess up in front of them.”

“That is true, well I'm going to go start dinner. You can just relax here until Chris gets home.”

“Thank you Miss Hooper.”

I plopped down on the couch, I've always felt more at home here then anywhere else. I look at the clock, it's almost 5o'clock, and since his mom is starting supper, hopefully he'll be back soon. I get up and wander back to Chris's room. Nothings changed, well he got a laptop now, and most of his stuff is in boxes in the corner of his room. I go and lay down on his bed, it's actually a really comfy bed, when someone else is there, but by yourself, it's rather not comfy.

I drifted off after laying there for awhile, and I woke up to Chris sitting down on his bed beside me,”Hey Ali, how is Stanford?”

I rolled over and smooshed my face into his pillow,”I like it, but it's kind of a really big change, the pace is really different, and everyones more concerned about themselves. Why do you ask?”

He just shrugs, and we sit there in silence. That's what I like about him, we can sit and not say anything and it never gets awkward.

“Chris, Alison suppers ready.” We both get up and go eat a nice meal.

I feel like it's been forever since I've done this, well it's been at least a year since I've had a homemade meal. Microwave meals aren't too bad, but they get boring, and unhealthy. We all eat in silence, which is normal. Usually it was Chris's dad that would get everyone talking, but he was on a trip to see his parents in New York and was in an accident with another car 5 years ago, he stayed on life support for 4 months, but when they found out he wasn't getting better, Chris's mom had to make the decision to take him off of life support.
