Catacombs

Catacombs

A Poem by Ruminating Archaeologist
"

golems are from Jewish folklore. cool, eh? catacombs that I'm referring to are the Parisian catacombs, because their walls are lined with human skulls and other bones

"
smoke and mirrors game
always hiding
Matryoshka doll, is that all I am
trapped in a box, boxes
of glass, burning up, too-hot greenhouse, sauna,
makes sense that what scares me most
is losing myself in here
with all the rocks I've thrown.

I'm desperately looking for a
secret door, an escape route,
but I'm fumbling tiredly for the keys
fumbling blindly in the dark
so sick of comparing, compiling
so sick of reanimating
golems into gargoyles of
every instance of a wrong turn
trapped with barrels around every corner
walls adorned with skulls, I can't travel far,
can't see the sun, beneath these skeletons
