Coping Mechanism

Coping Mechanism

A Poem by Ruminating Archaeologist
"

dropping like the temperature from the burning to the frost- the moon is destroyed; I'm hurling out of orbit

"

dropping like the temperature
from the burning to the frost-
the moon is destroyed; I'm
hurling out of orbit
and my relation to the sun is
too far away to speak of

and the waves rise up
as the earth explodes in a
cloud of magma, a nuclear
attack from the undermath
and the people scream as the water
rolls over

I'm breaking apart because
I can't handle these mathmatic
principles
I'm shattering because
I just want you to listen
to me
I'm just going to pretend
that none of this matters
and maybe you'll see
what all of this
does to me.

Author's Note

Ruminating Archaeologist
late at night, when I'm trying to sleep and something stupid's bothering me that I want to ignore, I always imagine the world exploding in a mushroom cloud, and then the tides rising up to drown all the screaming people.
