Way Back When

Way Back When

A Poem by Hannah

So young we were, it feels so far away

To think of the times we'd pretend we were brave

Never a day where a trail of laughter wasn't left

Never a day where life wasn't spent

Way back when monsters roamed our closets

And faeries came to sing us to sleep

Way back when we dreamed of finding our prince charming

Can we go back to the way things were?

Catching snowflakes on our tongues

Fighting off dragons one by one

Back when things came so easy

Can we go back?

Way back when...

Getting closer as we got older seemed only likely to be

Everyday was spent together

We were as thick as thieves

But soon that laughter turned into silence,

As we each went our separate ways

Little words were spoken

Whatever happened to...

Catching snowflakes on our tongues

Fighting off dragons one by one

Back when things came so easy

Can we go back?

Way back when...

Little by little that silence begins to fade

I can see the laughter through that muddy haze

But when I reach the open air,

I find it's not all there

Is there still that same person

I feel I used to know...?

You've changed so much,

You're different now

I don't quite yet have the strength to let you go.

Catching snowflakes on our tongues

Fighting off dragons one by one

Back when things came so easy

Can we go back?

Way back when...

Now that we're gone I think of our adventures

I hold on to our memories

Of way back when

i think that in a way it is sad. no one wants to grow up really and i think you've expressed that point to perfecion in this poem.
