We said goodbye long ago

not knowing it would be for so long

We parted ways, not looking back

Looking back, we were so wrong

 

Later when you came back

Nothing could be the same

We wrote and called and visited

and played the catch up game

 

I tried to forgive you every day

But you could never forgive you

You kept me at a distance, and

I kept myself at a distance too

 

Now you are gone and it's too late

We will never put the past behind

I understand why you did what you did

and in the end it was much more kind

 

We said goodbye six months ago

Not knowing it would be the last

We hung up, not looking back

and now our chance has passed
