a daughter's final days with her dying father

your hands were always so strong

I hold them now

and stroke them softly

as I tell you all that is within my heart

all that I have wanted to tell you

over these years that have passed

I have missed you so much

my hero, my daddy

I love you so much

I know you are still with me

even though many think you are long gone

I am your little girl

I always will be

I traversed far to be here

broken and sore

it doesn't matter

at least for now

for silly things

I turn on Gunsmoke

and you remember

those days back then

before the others

I see your eyes

I see my daddy

I see that sparkle

I sob redemption

my tears fall

upon my daddy

I have my daddy

I can let go

for my daddy

 

I fall asleep

beside my daddy

they wake me

they tell me

the time has come

to say goodbye

to my daddy

inside I say

NO NOT MY DADDY!!!!!

I WILL NEVER SAY GOODBYE!!!!

 

I sit down beside my daddy

I tell him it is a beautiful morning

with lots of fresh snow

just as he likes it

Would he like to take a walk in the snow?

He could do that now.

He could do anything he wanted now.

He could just let go

but

I will not say good bye

to my daddy

 

I say Hello Papa

And then I take a walk

With my daddy

In the fresh fallen snow

Of that early December morn

Shortly after four

 

And I walk with him now 

every morning, day and evening

in my heart and soul daily

so my babes

and thier babes

can know my Hero

my daddy
