The Orange Box

The Orange Box

A Poem by Brandy Alexander
"

There's an opiate epidemic right here and now. Our system treats drug addiction with more of their drugs. Creating and nurturing a State of Dependency. I have left my orange box.

"

My Orange Box fits me well

The safest place there is to dwell

Keeps me calm as I grip my knees

Soothes my soul with its orange beams.

See me run and play and kick

I’m just like the other boys waving my stick

But I watch the clock as the hours tick

Back to my box or I might be sick.

My Orange Box lets me say

I’m proud to be the woman I am today

Look how far I’ve run you see

I’ve got this box that keeps up with me

I can dance and sing and skip

I’m just like the other girls shaking my hips

But I watch the sands drop drip by drip

Back to my box I must always slip.

My Orange Box is my forever home

I left it once, but again I’ll never roam

The world away is just so unkind

There is nothing left with my box behind.

I can stay and wait and fiddle around

I’m just like other kids boxed up in this town

In this cell my pain will not be found

So to My Orange Box I’ll always be bound.
