The Tragedy of the Hopeless Romantic

The Tragedy of the Hopeless Romantic

A Poem by E.A. Spain

You will never get what you want,

Because it does not exist.

It is unheard of, it is extinct.

You'll search all day long for your "true love".

You will die in searching.

But he is not real, it is not real.

Accordingly, you are prone to heartbreak,

Sorrow and disappointment.

You will never be fulfilled.

You are foolish in love, with the idea of itself.

Take off your rose-colored shades.

Feel the surreal pain that is your whole life.

Become vulnerable to it, accept it.

It is behind you, around you, in front of you...

Kiss your dream goodbye,

Because at one point you must wake up.

And know the extremity that is...

That you will never be loved the way you desire.

You will never be loved the way you love.

Take reality for a whirl.

And disown your life of whimsical lies.

Face your hopeless fate, you hopeless-romantic

For goodness sake.

I felt this way for a very long time until I found Brayden. He really is my true love. Though I’m not a hopeless romantic

And so say all of them but I agree to disagree... when we turn within and accept what is fate throws doors open that you never thought would be- the ways of the human mind and the world can be so unkind but we just need to use our wings and rise above, so true your words are of the ways and things that get said, really captured my thoughts and heart and have me a sadness that so many will believe these lies projected out there, enjoyed reading🌹

Hard and honest words shared. I believe we find love when we are not looking for. Old poet wrote. Love find you, you don't find love. I do believe this. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Since poetry must do justice to all perspectives, I guess your perspective here is rather pessimistic rather than optimistic. And many will relate to that as well.
Hopelessness can make us lose faith in love and many other of life's avenues.
But like Witney Houston said in 'Miracles', 'Though hope is frail, it's hard to kill. There can be miracles when you believe.'

The poem has been beautifully depicted and true to the concept.

WELL DONE

Somewhat sinister, yet delightfully dealt stanzas convey your emotions incredibly well. I liked this poem.

"Hopeless Romantic" is an interesting part of your title. I've always seen "romantic" individuals as extraordinarily hopeful. But, your poem certainly conveys the rest of your title (i.e., "tragedy"). I think you've done a fine job conveying how a young, naive person can lose hope after a few failures or personal tragedies. Still, it's the romantic who inspires us, makes us believe in the seeming impossible realities, and sometimes, they actually succeed. Yet, as you convey in this poem, sometimes the romantic suffers the same fate at the cynic. Nice work on this one.

Love the ending, the flow was smooth and those last two lines were like a wave crashing against the shore with finality. Makes me glad I've never been a romantic but I loved this poem no matter :)
