Tea Time

Tea Time

A Chapter by Moth

Five hours had passed since the misfired spell incident and I was sitting at the kitchen table sharing tea with a demon. I watched as he poured spoonful after spoonful of sugar into his cup. Everything he did, even swirling his spoon was done so with an eerie amount of grace. He had to of put at least ten teaspoons of sugar before he even attempted to take a sip. Still it was not enough as he curled his lip and leaned away from the cup. My parents had called minutes after the ritual to tell me there was a horrible traffic back up and they we staying in the next town over until midday. That was one thing that was going my way… One thing. Over the rim of my cup I examined this creature. Everything from the tips of his ears to the laces on his shoes was setting my nerves on edge. It was too perfect and too imperfect at the same time. Like the obvious he had no shadow. The sun was beaming heavily into the kitchen window to cast a shadow onto the back wall of me enjoying tea by myself. The only indication I wasn't alone was when he shifted to block a moment of the sun making my shadow disappear. The science in all of this was far out the window.

"You're probably the fifth familiar I've had in the last century," his silky voice almost caused me to spill my tea. My nerves we shot, I could almost hear the bottle of sleep aids calling me from the upstairs medicine cabinet. However being knocked out with a demon hanging around was on the top of my list of things NOT to do with a demon.

"Aren't familiars supposed to be toads and cats? Not high school students," I murmured as I looked around my kitchen for any convent weapons if this should go right.

"Assuming is a horrible thing, I would think you would of learned that by now," He replied back in a bored tone.

"If you were any more charming I would swear you were human," I retorted. If I was going to be sassed for the rest of eternity by this a*s I was going to be in for a long one.

"To answer your question; If you wanted something that was going to get the simple things done, yes. You could use an animal or a low class demon. However, Witches warlocks, etc, etc, any person with a functioning brain can be a familiar. In your case a human with some magic skills. Are you sure your parents aren't hiding something from you?" I watched as his eyes squinted looking for some missing piece of a puzzle that didn't exist

Turning to look over my shoulder at the clock hanging I stopped and stared at the pictures on the fridge. I noticed the main one of my parents and I at my eighteenth birthday party. My dad was a car dealer and my mom was a teacher at a kindergarten. It didn't get that much mundane.

"I've got nothing. So do you just poof back to Hell or are you gonna spend the rest of the evening stalking me?"  Hearing a noise I looked over to see him looking quite offended. He stood up and walked over to the window.

"I"m sorry is my being here an inconvenience?" Hearing his tone he was definitely annoyed.

"Yep."

"Typically a demon usually goes back before dawn but we've yet to finish business here."

I looked up at him as a smile started to appear on his lips. I was not liking where this was going. Maybe if I left and went to a church he'd beat it. Then again I don't know if running is going to be pointless or make the situation worse.

"Business?"

"Clearly we must finish the bond as well as explain some… rules."

"You're joking," I rolled my eyes nearly slamming the cup down on its saucer.

"I'm not one to makes jokes. This is a serious matter and as much as you'd like to get back to… whatever it is children do this needs to be resolved."

I had originally planned on using the salt to annoy him and make him go away but at this rate I might have to move to drastic matters… Speaking of salt.

"How did you get out of my salt circle?"

"Hm..?" He looked up from the window.

"The. Salt. Circle." I pointed to upstairs.

"There was a gap in your circle. I just moved outside it," He moved back to the kitchen table dusting off imaginary crumbs from his side.

"I'm not even gonna bother. Just hurry up."

"No need to rush. Firstly you need to wear my insignia, give a little blood, promise to be an obedient human and I go back until I require your.. services," His smirk made my stomach do flips I can't believe I messed up this bad...
