Real/Imagined

Real/Imagined

A Poem by Bryn
"

just scratching the surface.

"

 Living on the edge

I can glance into my two cherished worlds.

On one side, claustrophobia;

Chaos, terror, questions

Pressing in on all sides.

My real world of jerky decisions

And blurred lines of ‘what do you really mean?’

People, projects, pressing, clamoring for attention

Wanting something in return

For their brisk smiles that say

‘I have other things on my mind.’

But so easily

I can slip into that alternate world,

Full of sharp edges and soft, smooth resolutions,

Where the smells of hairspray and new wood

Mingle with the tastes of glue and sugar-coated triumph.

Where new intentions are drawn from the dusty reservoirs of ancient feeling

And yet, to the eyes of the beholder, everything is fresh and new.

There’s the thrill of a single searching spotlight

Finally finding it’s mark

And feeling the critical eyes melt away

As you become someone else,

And the world is, finally, unveiled.

I loved the set up of this poem, putting the two worlds in seperate stanzas as you describe them. I also love the subject matter and how the "single searching spotlight Finally finding it's mark And feeling the critical eyes melt away As you become someone else, And the world is, finally, unveiled." The second world has the narrator delving into more detail, viewing the nonhuman side of things and analyzing their presence. Amazing job with this!
