The Drop

The Drop

A Poem by Bryan Preston
"

Again, I was challenged to write a poem this time on a drop of rain. The rain drop is unsure of its belonging and feels it has no use. However its purpose is to cause devastation upon the earth.

"

Formed in a moment of turmoil, a clash of two beings,

It appeared; and was unaware of its importance,

It struggled to grasp what its purpose would be.  To hinder?  To help?  It did not know.

It knew one thing however, it’s destination.  It plummeted, rapidly gaining speed,

Crashing towards its final resting place, where it would be forgotten, consigned to fate.

It was joined by more, an army arose and it realised what it had to do.

Crashing down,

Hitting,

Beating, pummelling all below.

But this one drop, this one drop of rain, just one of many,

Would hit the earth below, an earth that didn’t accept or need its presence.

The earth cried out in pain as it received lashing after lashing.

It was drowning, unable to fight, it gave up, it was over.
