King's Folly

King's Folly

A Poem by Bryan_Himmel

Walk right by me don't take a second glance
I always stood beside you
but maybe that was always the problem
you never knew it was me that carried you
somewhere as time flew by I became shadowed by you
and the life you wished to lead
leaving all in carnage I swear
I heard you say
damn the consequences, push straight ahead
if they get in your way, then trample them to death
you never were of much use for anything
anything more than my abuse
time flew by and still found me at your side
stubborn lap dog with refusal in my eyes
you were once so perfect, so calm, so serene
whatever happened to that girl in a fairytale scene?
what I never understood, was what kept the wool
over my eyes to play me as a fool
you were always the monster, with just a glimmer
of good and I tried to be there to make it shine
for good, but that wasn't what you wanted
never what you sought out to be
you always had the story written
exactly how you wanted it to seem
the road was long but I helped you to the throne
sat you down, to entertain you
It was I who starred the courtroom fool
so just sit back and watch this puppet
who will gladly jump for you
sleepless nights eat what's left
of my soul away, you think I can live like this
a disease that was my own to make
swift and corrupt as this love was
I wouldn't trade it for anything
I guess I really am the fool
hopeless romantic why can't you face it
this kingdom was never mine to rule.
