Guernica

A Poem by Phil Sanders
"

Inspired by Robert Capa's photo ....

"

The moment of death personified in an oft remembered pose

His body lifted … right off his toes

The bullet stopped the picture… stopped his life

An unnamed man … with children and a wife

Reprinted ‘cross the world a thousandfold

No more to sense the spring … or flowers hold

Futility unbounded …. life snuffed out

But still we waste more lives .. with war’s obscene rout

It would appear that sometimes the best poems have the least amount of words. You don't have to tell the reader what's happening or happend becuse single words can paint much imagary. you write a fine peice here. the stark reality of war. whoever may lay slain on a hill through the ages is still someones Son Daughter Father Mother. War never tells us whose right just whose left.

Thats a great piece Phil. In some ways the writing is art to mirror the photo - it's the kind of thing I would expect to see at the Tate Modern. Well done, really this is a fine piece of writing.

Yes, yes, yes. Obscenity indeed.

Thank you, Phil.
