Free as a Bird

Free as a Bird

A Poem by Phil Sanders
"

Thoughts .....

"

Spirit free …. flying on the wind
Apart from the world …. feeling free
An endless space stretching beyond the moon
A peaceful, gentle mind
Away from fears, worries and hurt
A limbo of gentle respite
A need to shout with expectant ecstasy
… at the delights of unshackled indifference
It will be pulled back….
Within the tortuous wheel of life
But enjoy … delight in the space and freedom
And return …. refreshed and enhanced
To understand… sympathise and to be ….
… to be yourself …….

I am interested that you say these are 'thoughts'. The clarity of them makes me want to float away with your images forever. I realise, as you do, this is not possible and that I need to be brought back to the living world where I can reflect on what you have said - and, yes, carry on living and being myself.
Nice words.

It is so hard to pick a favorite of your work, but I do believe this is definitely one of them and it's going in my favorite's list - I am very very picky about things I put in there, so...that says something my friend. I got out my mental surfboard and rode the wind with you - great visual images, evoked such a peaceful feeling...really well done!!

Yes that's what we all need from time to time at least - an escape into the land without worries to reinvigorate our soul. You speak exactly my mind.
Wonderful write! Essence and meaning - pure truth.
GREAT - a favorite!

Wonderful words. Such great ecstasy! Free.... freedom after a long time of isolation or prison-like living or thoughts is like being catapulted into the wild-blue yonder and feeling the wind under one's 'wings'. Nice..... To be able to be free to share with others... it is wonderful. I always have to remember to put down my landing wheels when I come down. (wink)

Always have I had a fascination with birds. Now I know why. This poem it is light and airy just like its metaphor.

This seems very psychological like the thoughts are coming out of your head onto the page as you think them. Through all this I like the way you say "A peaceful, gentle mind, Away from fears, worries and hurt" Makes you a really appealing man Phil.

I like the poem and the notion of slipping in a bird's being and taking off from all the things that hold us back. But when i looked at the gull I also saw a cloud of gulls across the river from you at Tipping (?) in Essex squarking their heads off as another tasty load of reeking London rubbish fills the big pit! A better image right now in March might be rooks enjoying themselves tumbling around on a breeze. I believe they really do enjoy flying.
