Ghostly Bows

Ghostly Bows

A Poem by Phil Sanders
"

A foggy morning on the river

"
As if by magic ghostly bows
Appear from through the misty shrouds
And water ripples silently
As shapes now form mysteriously
From distant shores the soundless ship
Arrives from yet another trip
With packages from far off lands
As people wait with open hands
The age old river slowly flows
Towards the sea and sunset glows
As time stands still and rays of light
Just glisten .. what a glorious sight

Now this one I do like. You are the boss of sunrises and sunsets and a foggy morning gives no sunrise, BUT you've got some real drama in this one...the ship is like a spirit or an actor stealing onto stage and you draw a message of purposefulness from its passage. Have you ever written on the prision ships or the dockyards at Chatham? Be great if you did more river poems. The river is a big character.

'A glorious sight' and another glorious poem! I'm not usually a big fan of poems made completely of rhyming couplets but this one works really well. NH

You sincerely capture the foggy feeling and so much more in your eloquent poem. This is precise and paints a true picture that takes me there. I'm saving this to my library of favorites. A precious write!

Wonderfully poetic with lucid pictures of light and shade. There is nothing obscure about this and that is refreshing in itself, I don't like to have to work hard when I read because then it becomes a chore, not so here;I thoroughly enjoyed this.
Good work Phil.
Cheers,
Helen :-)
