The Future

The Future

A Poem by Phil Sanders
"

Thoughts ............

"

Looking into the vast plains that are the future

I wonder …….. what will be?
Crossroads that have been reached … decisions to be made
Which road should I take …. Which highway to follow?
The day is peaceful and my life drifts by in thoughts
Clouds of memories ………. Good and bad
The way ahead uncertain… as it will always be
Desires and needs floating in an ocean of unreality
Turbulent now …. awaiting the calm ahead
…. will calm come?……….
Or …. Will the spattering raindrops always turn to storm?
The winds of change will blow ……
Creating emotions of gentleness like a summer breeze
Or ….. tempestuous like a raging whirlwind
But today … let the peace and stillness of the summer
Catch a breath and hold my life in limbo ….
Until the carousel ride begins again………

I love this, very meditative,
philisophical poetry
the roads we may travel
these lines took my breath away
"Desires and needs
floating in an ocean of unreality
Turbulent now .
awaiting the calm ahead"
Nice work
thank you for entering my contest

Once again a great write Phil - This is exactly what life is about ... we think we hold it in our hands ... think we know where we are heading, that all is well .... then we are tossed a curveball. What to do? Which way to go? Will it work out. Questions needing answers and answers causing more questions.

(But today let the peace and stillness of the summerCatch a breath and hold my life in limbo .Until the carousel ride begins again)

In all the turmoil there are small areas of peace, where we can take stock and breath... untill it all begins again.

What a life!

Well done Phil....

phil, i deeply enjoyed reading your work of understanding, beautiful, such quality its easy to read
your words over and over, to gain the perspective your gracefully surrender with images that are
alive with passion, the pauses worked with great effect, to know what it's like to glimpse eternity,
you layed, swealing the moment, enlightening in way you present new ideas, thank you.

Phil, I've enjoyed so many of your heartfelt poems because you are a wordsmith extraordinaire and a master of meter. This one was a very nice surprise because it deviated a bit from your normal style and showed everyone a different side to your writing. I very much enjoyed it.

Its amazing how many people write about water when they write about feelings or the future. The imagery of the sea is a prevelant part of this poem. calm tempestous serene. Liked this peice thought then ending was good as we all ride the carousel and all make decisions then the future will be revealed to us. another good write from St Andrews

I love the fact that you portrayed the thinking mind quite effectively. the imagery was present and so was the rest of the emotions that go along with uncertainty and musings. The structure is a bit discomforting though but after teh first few lines, i found myself not thinking of them. Well done!

I kept thinking of King Lear as I read this...the decisions he made the the whirlwinds he stepped into. Ach, I'm tilting towards the dark side tonight. Not the poem's fault, but this reader's.
