The Blizzard of 2014A Story by Bruin Pol
Matt and Dylan could still remember the winter when they met for the first time during the blizzard of 2014. Matt and the rest of the school had got out of school earlier than usual that day, as the snow storm was getting worse and worse. Matt thought that it was grate that he got to go home sooner then normal. Matt had boarded the bus and sat where he normally sat as all the rest of the kids boarded. The bus eventually left.
The bus driver continued dropping off kids to their homes until there was only Matt and one other guy on the bus who Matt did not know. By now the snow storm had turned into a blizzard and was getting even worse than earlier, it was so bad that it got to the point that the bus driver had his fore ways on and was driving really slow, the bus finally rolled to a dead stop at the second last stop, the bus driver yelled out “Hey Matt I can't go any further, as I am afraid the roads are too bad for me to continue any further without getting stuck, I have also been told over the radio that the main road to your house is no longer accessible in either direction, so I am afraid that you are going to have to get off at Dylan's stop.” the bus driver continued talking as he got out of his seat and opened the doors. “I am going to bring you and Dylan to his house and ask that his mother take you in for the night.
Matt was a little nervous as he did not know Dylan, nor did he know his mother. Dylan got up and so did Matt and they walked to the front of the bus and got off, they continued to walk through the steep snow with the bus driver until they reached the front door. Dylan opened the door and yelled for his mom to come to the door. Dylan's mother came to the door and saw the bus driver and Matt, “Is everything okay?” Dylan's mom asked
“No I'm afraid not mame, unfortunately the storm has gotten so bad that I am unable to safely get Matt home, I have also been informed that Matt here's main road to his house in both directions is no longer accessible. So I am here to ask you if it’s possible you could take Matt in for the night till the storm subsides tomorrow?”
Oh yes, of course he is welcome! Please come in Matt so you can stay warm” Dylan's mother thanked the bus driver and told him to drive safe, she then shut the door and told Matt he could put his boots where Dylan's where, she then told Dylan to show Matt where to put the rest of his winter clothing, and then to bring Matt to the kitchen so I can phone his mother. Dylan showed Matt to the closet where they put their winter clothing away. After Dylan and Matt finished putting away their winter clothing, they went to the kitchen where Matt gave Dylan's mother his home phone number. Dylan's mother dialed the phone number and waited for Matt's mother to pick up, Matt's mother finely picked up. “Hello?”
“Hi is this Matt's mother?”
“Yes this is? May I ask who is calling?”
“Yes, this is Mrs. Lang, I am Dylan's mother who happens to go to the same school as your son, and who also happens by chance to be on the same bus as your son. I am calling in regards about your son, the bus driver who drives Dylan and Matt home from school came to my door asking if I could take him in for the night, as the main road to your house is not accessible by vehicle anymore, due to the storm. So I just wanted to let you know that he is safe at my house. “Oh grate, thank you so much Mrs. Lang! I will come and pick him up as soon as the storm subsides and the roads as accessible again. And again thank you, this should be a good experience for him as he does not have very many friends.”
“Oh, well that’s too bad. I'm almost certain that Dylan and Matt well get along grate together, as Dylan also to does not have very many friends.”
“I see, well this should be a grate experience for both of them then, anyways tell Matt that I will be there as soon as the roads are accessible to your house. May I ask where about your house is?”
“Yes, we live at 348, King Drive, and you can reach me at the number I called you with.”
“Okay, and again thank you, take care.”
Dylan's mother hung up the phone, she then told Matt that his mother knows, and that everything is okay. Matt was relived now that everything was going to be okay. Matt's mother told Dylan to show Matt his room and where he will sleep tonight, and then to go have some fun. Dylan showed Matt to his room, he told Matt that he could have the bottom part of the bunk bed and he would sleep on the top bunk bed. Matt was starting to feel comfortable now, so he asked if he had any video games they could play with each other. “Ya I have a ton of video games, did you want to play Grand theft Auto 5?”
“Sure, I actually have that game at home and love playing it, what part of the game are you at?”
“I am midway through the game I'm pretty sure”
The night continued to progress well as the blizzard got worse. After they finished dinner, they continued to play video games until about 11:30Pm when they both decided to hit the hay for the night. That night both Dylan and Matt stopped believing that pollution was not the cause of global warming and that if people continued to pollute, they would see more storms even worse than this in the future.
