A Love Letter to DifferenceA Poem by brownie2109This is something I wrote for anyone who feels different. When the superhero lifted his mask And we saw beneath those eyes, There were no ifs or buts, No plans for defence, Just us. Screens shadow my face into the night, And my eyes overspill with Questions etched in the how, when, why, Until they shoot back into the air. Breathe. We exchanged syllables the other day. ‘Nice to meet you,’ I wanted to say, Because is the person I know you to be Just an image you want the world to see Or something more, or something less? For how long has the world stood in your way? Amongst the aimless chatter There are promises that nothing matters. And there’s so much hidden beneath the keys, As we scatter essays of support In the only way we know how to be. Sometimes I get it wrong, Just know that I try to do right ‘til the end. And whatever storm may cloud the journey I will fight off, until you see the sky again. You are loved. You are not alone. And while we stand by your side, You will always be home. © 2016 brownie2109 |
