THE TRIO A POEM

THE TRIO A POEM

A Poem by GeeJay
"

If Mommy and Daddy are fighting, what do the children do?

"

MAN THE BATTLE STATIONS!
THE HUDDLE WE MUST FORM
WE MUST PROTECT EACH OTHER
FROM THE IMPENDING TUMULTUOS STORM

THE CAPTAIN, THE FIRST MATE
PREPARE TO THROW AND SLING
WORDS OF DISCORD, OF ANGER
TO CAUSE DUE HARM AND STING

BUT WHAT THEY FAIL TO REALIZE IS
THE IMPACT OF SUCH MISSES
THE TWO OF THEM, REACHES THE TRIO
THAT GROUP WHERE HUGS AND KISSES

SHOULD ABOUND AND THRIVE, SURROUND THEM
SHOULD SHOWER THEM WITH LOVE
NOT WITH TENSION, STRIFE, DISAGREEMENT
GIVING PEACE AND LIFE A SHOVE

INTO THE CORNER WHERE THE TRIO SITS
SISTER, BROTHER, SISTER, TOO
WHERE, WITH LIGHT ON, THERE IS DARKNESS
UNSURE OF WHAT TO DO

BUT THEN IT’S HARD TO DECIDE
WHICH IS BETTER, WHICH IS WORSE
THE YELLING AND THE SCREAMING
OR THE SILENCE THAT FOLLOWS A CURSE

WHO’D WANT TO BE A CAPTAIN
MUCH LESS, A FIRST MATE
WHEN LOVE ISN’T PROPERLY DEMONSTATED
WHEREIN LIES THE TRIO’S FATE?

Author's Note

GeeJay
This was written after a huge fight between my now ex-wife and myself. I feel The Lord gave me a glimpse of what was happening during that time because I remember seeing them huddled together one night after a big fight. I guess it almost serves as an apology to them and that I understand what that was doing to them.
